Extremely Rare Aldo Londi for Bitossi Ceramic Bird Figure

$2,195.00

Exceptional blue bird from our personal Bitossi collection of many years. This 1960’s Aldo Londi designed ceramic bird is hollow and finished with dark blue over black base glaze. The wings are the most interesting part of the design, subtly from the shoulder to the tail at the sides. A brass beak takes form, resting within the head only by tension. Same with the legs, which enter the body under the birds body, coming to a rest on the top of the interior of the form. No permanent fasteners exist on this remarkable design- legs and beak sit firm with just the simple tension of the materials fitting together. The solid base is cut from a wonderfully dense and beautifully grained African Mahogany, (cut on the quarter- the most desirable cut of the milling process) and is heavy on its own: a very worthy foundation for such a beautiful and rare artifact of the 1960s Italian design realm.

Measures just shy of 18” long, 10” tall and 5.5” wide at the wood base.
